Resources for members of our community concerned with immigration and citizenship status:
- CUNY Office of Undocumented Students
- While there may be shifts in legislation at the federal level, many of the rights of undocumented students exist within the State’s authority. Therefore, undocumented community members have rights regardless of who is in office. Please contact the team here if you are experiencing any issues or need any support.
- CUNY’s student services page has been updated with resources for students who are not citizens
- Linktree to CUNY Immigration Support Working Group
- If a student’s fear is keeping them from their regular activities, they should consider meeting with a counselor (remotely, if needed). Immigrant students can contact [email protected]
- Red Cards/Tarjetas Rojas contain useful information folks can use to assert their Constitutional rights and defend themselves in certain situations, such as when ICE comes to a home—or to a classroom. It also has translations in multiple languages.
- Protocol for ICE/law enforcement coming to campus/classroom: I will not allow ICE to enter my classroom, and will refer them to the relevant personal at Baruch, should they ask to enter.
Resources for LGBTQ+ members of our community
- Trans Lifeline: Trans Lifeline is a grassroots hotline and microgrants non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis – for the trans community, by the trans community.
- LGBTQ+ Resources for Students: Dr. Gary Dillon is a counseling center psychologist and leads the CUNY-wide LGBTQ council. He is organizing events for students in the spring, including the annual Lavendar Graduation and is a resource for this community. Because of his role with the council, he is also a resource for faculty and staff.
- Counseling: At Baruch, we acknowledge that as a student you are balancing many demands. During the semester, if you start to experience personal difficulties or stressors that are interfering with your academic performance or day-to-day functioning, please consider seeking free and confidential support at the Baruch College Counseling Center.
- For more information or to make an appointment, please contact the Counseling Center or call 646-312-2155. If it’s outside of business hours (Monday-Friday 9-5 PM) and you need immediate assistance, please call 1-888-NYC-WELL (888-692-9355). If you are concerned about one of your classmates, please share that concern by filling out a Campus Intervention Team form.
Resources for Academic Success
- Technology Loan Program: Baruch runs a program to help students access the technology they need to complete their coursework. If you need to borrow a laptop or tablet please contact them.
- Academic Support: Visiting Baruch’s academic support services is correlated with higher grades. I encourage all students in this course to take advantage of these services: visit the tutors at SACC, work with the consultants at the Writing Center and Tools for Clear Speech, and take advantage of office hours! Visit early and often! Students who visit these services do better in their classes than students who don’t.
- SACC: (Student Academic Consulting Center): SACC supports the academic success of undergraduates at Baruch College through small group peer tutoring and other programs, serving students in a wide variety of subjects across the curriculum.
- Writing Center: The Writing Center offers free support to all Baruch students. Our professional consultants work collaboratively with you to deepen your writing and English language skills.
- Tools for Clear Speech: TfCS offers a broad range of free tutorial sessions, workshops, and online practice to enhance the oral communication skills of Baruch’s non-native English-speakers, multilinguals, and English language learners.
